Title of artwork: A Man in High Places

About this artwork: Don't look down - I was not assigned to photograph this workman putting new copper on the Topeka, Kansas State House dome. This was one of my ideas that sounded great when I was standing on the ground. The Topeka Capital-Journal had an exceptional photo staff and most of them, like me, were afraid of heights. But competition, trying to get something better than the other guy, encouraged me climb out on a rickety scaffold with 2 x 4 railings, 258 feet off the ground. At the bottom of the photo you can see my other camera, a Nikon SP camera with a 21 mm lens protruding beneath my necktie. The workman said, "There aren't many people who would get out here on this little scaffold." I told him I was cold and scared to death and could he please be quiet. Note the metal tools lying loosely on the board next to the workman. OSHA, hard hats and better scaffolds came into being in 1970.
